While I am still working on chandeliers using light, summery colors, I know that Autumn ~ my very favorite of seasons ~ is just around the corner.  I love the rich jewel tones of fall......reds, oranges, deep yellows, gold, amethyst, emerald......

I am in awe of the artistry I have featured below.  These works by Etsy artists awaken my senses and offer inspiration for upcoming designs that welcome the fall season...

The First Rose of Summer

'Tis the first rose of summer that opes to my view,
With its bright crimson bosom all bathed in the dew;
It bows to its green leaves with pride from its throne--
'Tis the queen of the valley, and reigneth alone.

Oh! why, lovely stranger! thus early in bloom,
Art thou here to assure us that summer is come?
The primrose and harebell appear with the spring,
But tidings of summer the young roses bring.

Thou fair gift of nature (I welcome the boon),
Was 't the lark of the morning that 'woke thee so soon?
Yet I weep, thou sweet floweret! for soon, from the sky,
The lark shall repose where thy leaves wither'd lie.

Oh! if beauty could save thee, thou ne'er wouldst decay,
But, alas! soon thou 'lt perish and wither away;
And thy kindred may blossom, and blossom as fair--
Yet I 'll mourn, lonely rosebud! when thou art not there.

The Color of May

Yellow, I have discovered, works so well with so many different colors, it can almost be considered  a "neutral"!

Here are some of my past favorites that feature yellow as well as a couple of inspirational pictures from my garden:

A unique favorite of mine...A combination of vintage and newer lighting components that I painted a very pale yellow and light gray...a stunning chandelier!

Hanging Your Wind Chime

Here are some ideas for hanging your wind chime.  These ideas can be used whether you are hanging your wind chime in front of a sunny window indoors, or hanging it outdoors from a hook or a tree branch...

Small chain with S hooks...

This wind chime is hanging in my bay window in the kitchen.  There is a plant hook screwed into the ceiling, so I used a standard planter type chain with 2 S hooks.  This chain can be purchased at most home improvement stores or garden centers.  They come packaged in sets of 3 chains with the S hooks.

Ribbon or Tulle...

For this wind chime, I used pink tulle that I purchased at Michaels ~ very inexpensive!  I tied a bow at the loop on the wind chime and then tied another bow to the ceiling hook.  This lends a softer, cottage~type look to the wind chime, don't you think?

Flea Market Jewelry...

This is a multi~strand, shiny beaded necklace that I found at a flea market.  The clasp is sturdy, so I strung the necklace through the loop and clasped it onto the hook.  It not only adds shimmer to the wind chime, but it is an excellent way to reuse old necklaces!

SPRING HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!

It has been a long wait for Spring this year...

April has been wet and mostly cold.  We have been blessed, however, with a couple of "teaser" warm days scattered throughout the month.  Thinking back, whenever we had a warm day, the wind was blowing wildly! 

I snapped some photos this morning ~ I managed to get out in the yard between rain showers ~ and wanted to share parts of my gardens with you!

 

Let us hope for a milder, less windy May!

My Pink Week

This past week was filled with lovely pink and white creations, using lots of crystal prisms and pink and white roses...

First, I finished up this adorable creamy white and pink lamp for a Florida client.  This lamp started out as a baby swag chandelier years ago!  All the vintage components were pieced together
to create this sweet lamp that I embellished with pink crystals, pearls, and rhinestones.  I am delighted that it turned out so beautiful!

My next project was creating this dazzling white and pink chandelier for a client on the west coast.  This darling vintage brass chandelier, painted soft cottage white, has been very generously draped and and dressed in sparkly clear and pink crystal beading and embellished with pink and white roses and rhinestones at the center hub.  Lots of darling petite pink raindrop crystals mix with pink teardrops and antique french pendant crystals to give this fixture a perfect princess look!



While working on custom orders, I took little breaks to work on this sweet pedastel dish!  A gorgous round marble base holds all of these lovely vintage shabby white pieces that I almost completely covered in rhinestones!  Using pink and clear rhinestones, and tiny little pink porcelain roses at the half~way point on the pedastel, this beautiful dish is fit for a princess!  I love the scalloped glass dish with the lip that curves under...it is so unique and adds that special custom touch!  I surrounded the rim with petite pink crystal teardrops and centered the bottom of the dish with sparkly rhinestones.  LOVE THIS DISH!!!

It was a week filled with pink!  I think this coming week will be filled with WHITE.  I have just created a darling petite cherub chandelier that will be a soft cottage white and accented with white roses and clear crystals ~ I can't wait to get started on that one!

And with the time moving forward, it will be light longer in the evening ~ YAY!

A Purple Passion!

Purple, amethyst, violet, lilac...

I love using these colors in my work.  Mixing violet and olive or emerald, like this:

Or, lilac with lavender:

I find the color combinations so stunning!

It is such a coincidence that Etsy Cottage Style would do a Purple Passion color feature because I just finished taking photos of a collection of vintage purple hankies that I will offer on my site.  While I am just the biggest fan of glitzy sparkle, I have always had a soft spot for vintage fabrics and  lace.  So I am happy to share my vintage hankie collection, starting with PURPLE!
